What's Foxo-NET?
It is an experimental network, mainly IPv6-based, dedicated to IT enthusiasts who wish to study and practice with common Internet mechanisms (DNS, BGP, HTTP...) in a relaxed environment and with a focus to experimentation and knowledge sharing.
You can think of it as a big VPN that brings together people who are passionate about networking. Usually you connect using wireguard, but you can also use BGP if you want to.
Foxo-NET is interconnected with DN42!
What services do you offer?
Currently, these services are provided.
- Reverse proxy HTTP(s) (haproxy+nginx): to be able to expose internal services to the public or make a service static behind NAT or without DDoS protection
- Nameserver (nsd): create and propagate DNS zones on an authoritative nameserver for your domains
- Proxmox Backup Server: 100gb of space to make encrypted, differential and verified backups of your computers or servers
- Nextcloud: 100gb of collaborative space for files, documents, conversations
- Static Hosting (nginx): your personal, static site, available on your personal Foxo-NET subdirectory, ready to take flight
- Web Proxy/Mirror: access repositories and other useful websites to manage your server in the absence of a direct internet connection
Can I get access to the Internet through Foxo-NET?
No. All outgoing connections are blocked and hosts do not, usually, have public IP addresses. The most common sites (Linux repositories, github and other useful ones) are accessed via the Proxy.
IPv6 only? Can I participate if my ISP does not support IPv6?
Of course! For maximum VPN reachability, all external services and Wireguard access points are available in both IPv4 and IPv6. Internally, however, the network is almost entirely IPv6. Don't worry! You can still access IPv4-only services using DNS64 and NAT64.
SLA? How many nines?
Being an experimental network there are no guarantees and anything could break at any time. That said, some Foxo-NET services are also used in production, so you can expect a nice high availability.
